Circle

Every geometric construction on this website, with the exception of the ellipse, can be constructed using circles or circular arcs alone. Even a straight line can be understood as a circle arc with an infinitely large radius.

Scroll down to step through the instructions.

01. Secure one end of a length of string or rope at a given point. This will be the center of the circle.

02. Extend the length of string or rope some distance from the center point, pulling it taut. This distance will be the radius of the circle.

03. Rotate the free end of the rope or string around the center point, making a mark as you go until you reach the point you started at.

04. You have created a circle!
