Circular Arc

In the generic sense, an arc is just a section of a curve. For example, there is such a thing as the arc of a straight line. In that case, the arc is called a segment. Here we are concerned with the arc of a circle.

01. Secure one end of a length of string or rope at a given point. This will be the center of the arc.

02. Extend the length of string or rope some distance from the center point, pulling it taut. This distance will be the radius of the arc.


 

03. Rotate the free end of the rope or string around the center point, making a mark as you go. The length of the arc will depend on the application. This arc has an angle of 180° or π radians.


 

04. You have created an arc!
