90 Degrees

There are many ways to construct perpendicular lines. Here we go through an example where you create perpendicular lines that meet at a point but do not cross. Explore perpendicular lines at a given point and perpendicular lines for other examples of perpendicularity. There are even more out there!

Scroll down to step through the instructions.

01. Start with a line.

02. Identify one end of this line and label the point A.

03. Identify the point of intersection between the starting line and arc A. Label this point B.

Using the same radius as arc A draw an arc around point B. Make sure that this arc crosses arc A.

04. Identify the point of intersection between arcs A and B. Label this point C.

Using the same radius as arc A draw an arc around point C. Make sure that this arc crosses arc A.

05. Identify the point of intersection between arcs A and C. Label this point D.

Using the same radius as arc A draw an arc around point D. Make sure that this arc crosses arc C.

06. Identify the point of intersection between arcs C and D. Label this point E.

Starting at point A, draw a line that passes through point E.

07. You have created a 90 Degree angle!
