Two Point Spiral
There are many types of spirals: the Archimedean, the logarithmic and the Fibonacci are some examples. Here we are concerned with a spiral that can be made using Euclidean geometry. But there are many types of spirals that can be made using Euclidean geometry. This example shows how to construct a spiral starting with two points, but you can construct a spiral from an infinite number of points. The more points the smoother the spiral.
Scroll down to step through the instructions.
01. Start by drawing a line.
02. Select two Points along this line.
03. Anchor your string or rope at one point and extend it to the second point. Draw an arc from that point until you reach the starting line.
04. Shift your anchor point to the other point while maintaining the position of the free end of your string or rope. Draw an arc in the same direction as the first, stopping when you reach the starting line again.
05. Repeat step 04 until you are satisfied with the size of your spiral.
06. You have created a two point spiral!
