Moss’s Egg

The word oval is derived from the Latin ovum, for egg. Any shape that resembles an egg can be called oval.

Moss’s Egg is an example of an egg that that is made up of four arcs, but eggs can be drawn from an infinite number of arcs.

01. Draw two perpendicular lines.


 

02. Identify the point of intersection of the two perpendicular lines and draw a circle. The size of the circle is up to you.

Identify the points of intersection between the horizontal line and the circle you have drawn. Label the point on the left A and the point on the right B.


 

03. Securing the string at point A, extend your string or rope to point B. Rotate the string or rope around point A, making a mark as you go to draw an arc.


 

04. Repeat step 04, this time starting from point B and extending your rope or string to point A.


 

05. Starting from point A, draw a line that passes through the vertical line and the arc around point A. The angle of this line is up to you.

Label the intersection of this line and the vertical line as point C. Label the intersection of this line and the arc around point A as point D.


 

06. Repeat the previous step, this time starting the line at point B.

Label the intersection of the line and arc B as point E.


 

07. Secure your string or rope at point C and extend it to point D. Mark a circle around point C.


 

08. Trace over arcs DE, EA, AB and BD.
